On May 7, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., Mr. Sahakarn Petchnarin, the Director General of the Department of Corrections, and Mrs. Warissara Sirisuthidecha, the Director of the Rehabilitation Division, along with Mrs. Chanthima Uiyyasathian, the Director of the Education Support Sub-division, attended the discussion meeting on developing inmate education approaches. Mr. Thanakorn Donnuea, the Director General of the Department of Learning Encouragement (DOLE), chaired the meeting, which was also attended by Mr. Chaiphat Panwattasakun, the Deputy Director General, and associated officers of DOLE.
The discussion topics were as follows:
- Developing proper education courses for inmates
- Connecting life experiences to education courses
- Organizing education courses for illiterate inmates
- Transition of inmates between semesters
- Education courses budgets
- Developing prison instructors
In this meeting, the DOC and the DOLE continued to review and discuss the possibility of agreeing to a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations. The purpose of this MOU is to carry out the mission of promoting basic education to inmates, encouraging them to secure stable jobs and developing the right mindset for education, which is an essential component for social reintegration.
