On 25th May 2023, at Central Women Correctional Institution, the Department of Corrections hosted a ceremony to admit a Thai inmate, former sentenced and incarcerated in a Prison in Sri Lanka, to serve her remaining sentence in Thailand. This is in accordance with the Treaty between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons and on Co-operation in the Enforcement of Penal Sentences. Up to present, there are 26 Thai inmates being transferred from foreign countries to serve their sentence in Thailand. We hopefully trust that this could facilitate family visits, increase the ability to life adjustment and better rehabilitation.
