On July 18, 2024, Mr. Narong Juisuey, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Corrections (Administration), visited Chiang Rai Central Prison to inaugurate the Region 5 Prisons and Correctional Institutions’ inmates Marching Competition. He received a warm welcome from directors and officers of Region 5 Prisons and Correctional Institutions, along with several government agency leaders from Chiang Rai Province, who served as judges for the competition.
4 institutions from Region 5 qualified for the competition: Chiang Mai Central Prison, Chiang Rai Central Prison, Lampang Correctional Institution For Drug Addicts, and Nan Provincial Prison. Chiang Rai Central Prison emerged as the winner.
For this competition, inmates underwent intensive training, aimed at improving their discipline, manners, and physical abilities simultaneously, which serves multiple purposes, including enhancing the security of their custody, operating another form of prisoner rehabilitation that will foster positive behavior to inmates, conductive to social reintegration, as well as demonstrating the successful outcomes of the Department of Corrections and Ministry of Justice’s inmates correctional mission, thereby promoting a positive public image.
