On June 19, 2024, at 10 A.M., Mr. Sahakarn Petchnarin, Director-General of the Department of Corrections, assigned Mr. Wichan Sriwiset, Director of Surat Thani Central Prison, Region 8 prison leader and Mrs. Sathika Samsri, Director of Chaiya District Prison, to give interview to The New York Times Reporter about Kita Muay Thai, a form of Thai Kickboxing, with strong influence from aerobic exercise forms, as part of the news topic “Muay Thai Vocational Training in Thai Prison”, at Sor Wangchompu (ส. วังชมพู) Gym, the Thai Kickboxing Gym of Chaiya District Prison.
Mr. Wichan, and Mrs. Sathika, along with prison officers also guided the New York Times reporters to see the activity of Sor Wangchompu Gym, they also prepared improved Kita Muay Thai performance by female inmates for the reporters.
